Baisakhi is a spring festival celebrated by Sikh and Hindu communities. On Vaisakhi of 1699, Guru Gobind Singh decided to transform Sikhs into a family of saint soldiers, known as Khalsa Panth. On this day, Guru challenged any Sikh warrior who was prepared to give his life. Five people volunteered and they later came to be known as Panj Piare or the beloved five. Guru instead of killing them baptized them with Amrit and formed five membered Khalsa. The main aim of this group was to defend religious freedom.
